The Majuro Cooperative School is a private institution that relies mainly on tuition and donations to cover the costs of our operation. It is for this purpose that this part of our web site is presented so that people from around the world can participate in the funding of our great, over 30 year old educational experiment. Yes, we need your help: to purchase books, computers, teaching materials, and to renovate our facilities. We are audited each year by the Deloite-Touche accounting firm.
Each individual, government or corporate donor will receive a letter from our School Board President confirming the receipt of the donation and a description as to how it will be used for our school. Thank you for your kind consideration.
Current funding needs:
Please Help! Dear Potential Donor, The Majuro Cooperative School Board and the MCS PTA decided to move forward with a 9th grade class during the 2008-2009 school year. We expect to complete our high school expansion by the end of 2012. As it is with our lower elementary and middle schools, it is our goal to have our high school fully accredited by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges). The 11th grade has been added as scheduled for the 2010-2011 school year. We intend to add the 12th grade during the 2011-2012 school year, with our first graduating 12th grade class scheduled for May of 2012.
As a long time Board member of the Majuro Cooperative School, and more importantly, as a parent who has already sent two children off-island for high school, I believe this may be the single most important project that I have worked on during my almost 3 decades in the Marshall Islands. I know firsthand of the trauma that both parent and child suffer when they are separated at such a crucial age in a child’s development, usually 12 or 13 years old. My daughter, Vivian, graduated from high school in the US in 2010 after living there for 6 years, and though she did wonderfully in school, she was miserable because of the distance between herself and her family members. We were only able to see her 2 months out of the year. I still have two children at the Majuro Cooperative School and I would like very much for them to stay with my family through high school, which is one of the main reasons why the Board and the parents of the school have organized themselves to start this very worthwhile project: It is time for this very painful exodus of our young people to stop.
Outside financial support is absolutely crucial for us to complete this project. We would very much appreciate your help in an endeavor that will profoundly help the people of the Marshall Islands by offering a high quality, accredited high school education right here in the islands.

*The Current PTA Wish List:
-supplementary literacy materials for primary classrooms and struggling students at intermediate level;
-small stage area for graduation, assemblies, and concerts;
-partial and full scholarships for students* (photo) During the 2003-04 school year, the deteriorating teacher-housing complex was identified as a key issue for improvement because the quality of the apartments directly affects teacher hiring. The Board has moved ahead with this important project after receiving a loan from the Bank of Guam. The building was completed in September of 2007.
*There is a constant need for funding for the upgrade of our facilties and for various kinds of educational materials.
*We also are asking that potential donors sponsor children to go to our school. If you are interested in sponsoring a child for a year at the Majuro Cooperative School (about $2,000), or even helping out with a partial scholarship for a student, please contact the principal at the following e-mail: coopschl@ntamar.net
